in medieval times many boys (not girls) dreamed of becoming knights. It took many years to train and learn the skills and rules of knighthood. Training started at the age of seven when parents sent their boys to be pages in the house of another knight. After an apprenticeship of eight or nine years pages started to learn the skills of a squire, sometimes even further away from home! Squires hoped to be dubbed knight around the age of 20 or 21. Today girls as well as boy can be pages and squires and train to join the Fellowship of the Heritage Knights. We think that anyone under the age of 8 will probably be happier developing the skills of a page while those under 12 will choose the tasks identified for Squires but there is no hard and fast rule. |
