HERITAGE DETECTIVES GO QUESTING: STAGE ONE 13 Nov 2009
Every Heritage Quest has three stages. If you want to be a Heritage Detective you must complete each stage. Follow the instructions below.

STAGE ONE. PREPARE TO GO ON A QUEST
Make the preparations as exciting as you can.
Involve the whole family.
Allocate the activities according to the ages, interests and capabilities of the members of your team.

1.1. Find out about Arthur and his quest.
1. Read or download Arthur's Teme Valley story and his Quest.
2. Read the 'The Seeing Stone' and the other books in the Arthur Trilogy by Kevin Crossley-Holland. ISBN 0439263271 or try The Seeing Stone.

1.2. Choose a Quest Trail.
We have a choice of Quest Trails they are all circular walks along which you will have to spot things, look at them carefully, and then answer the questions on the trail sheet. The Quest Trails follow the routes of Parish Heritage Walks., each one starts in the car park of a village churches where you can park your car
1. Maps and full walkers directions for Parish Heritage Walks can be downloaded from this site. Take a look at them and choose the one that suits you best.
2. A heritage audio is available for each of these walks. They are available on CD and can be purchased from the Go West shop.

Please note that our routes follow established footpaths but weather conditions etc can affect their condition and your enjoyment. We recommend that you try to walk the quest trail in advance of your visit, if you come across any problems please let us know so that we can publish your findings on our CHECK! web page for the assistance of others.

1.3.Prepare for an expedition.
Everyone will need their own Trail Quest Sheet and some detectives tools. They are free and can be downloaded from this site. Quests and Tools

The tools will require cutting, colouring and sticking skills. We recommend that parents and guardians explore all the materials before distributing them to younger members of the family/group.
The Detectives Tools have been designed to help you answer the questions. The group will also need a notebook and pencil, and if possible a pair of binoculars and a digital camera.
Pack up a picnic, put everything into a waterproof bag with some emergency rations, make sure everyone is wearing sensible shoes and clothing and then, when you are ready, go out and have some fun.
