ARTHUR'S Quest
In 1204 when Arthur lived by the river Teme at Caldicot Manor in the borderlands of England and Wales his overlord Sir Roger Mortimer of Wigmore was summoned to Worcester by King John to witness the betrothal of the King's daughter, Joan, to Prince Llywellyn of Wales.
Arthur, was one of the young knights who rode behind Sir Roger in his entourage all the way to Worcester. He remembers passing many fine stone churches and stopping for refreshment at manor houses owned by the mighty Mortimers but he is not certain which route they took and he wants to find out. Will you help him? Arthur feels sure that they followed the course of the river Teme but he needs you to do some detective work and find out if there is anything in the Teme Valley today that Arthur might remember from his journey?
So you want to take part in the quest? - well we think its going to be pretty difficult because Arthur's journey took place over 800 years ago and things have changed a lot since then! You will need to be a real heritage detectives and look for clues in the stones because you won't find any footprints.
When you have found something of interest tell Arthur on the special report form (click on the heading to get a copy) so that he add them to his picture of the Teme Valley as it was in 1204. Then he will be able to work out if he did come down the Teme Valley to Worcester. BUT DON'T WASTE ARTHUR'S TIME - before you send in your report you must first work out if what you have discovered really is something that Arthur would recognise. If you do well he may make you a Teme Valley Heritage Knight.
